What is Data Network (DATA)?

Data Network is a blockchain network focused on provenance for AI training data. It was previously known as Story Network, and the rebrand was announced on 25 June 2026: the Story Foundation became the DATA Foundation, and the IP token became DATA at a 1:1 ratio, with no action required from holders. PIP Labs, the team behind Story, remains the main development team and contributes software to the network.

The project's stated goal is to become a place where AI training data can be sourced, verified and audited. Its Trace product is an onchain registry that issues verifiable receipts for each human-contributed data record, while keeping contributor privacy.

What DATA is used for

DATA is the network's native token. The project describes the token as the rails for provenance, licensing, contributor payments and audits on the network. In practice this covers:

• Recording consent-based datasets so AI labs can verify where data came from.
• Paying contributors and letting them confirm that the agreed terms are honored.
• Supporting audits of consent and licensing by third parties and regulators.
• Staking on the network, for which the project provides tools.

DATA supply and token design

The DATA token is the continuation of the IP token, so the supply carried across 1:1 at the rebrand. The token trades under a different name and ticker than it did before, and older references to IP, Story or Story Protocol refer to the same network lineage. Developer tooling and source code remain public on the PIP Labs GitHub. Live circulating supply is shown in the market data on this page.

Because the project changed its name and focus, some exchanges and wallets may still show the old Story or IP labels. Check that a listing refers to the Data Network migration before trading or transferring.

What to check before using DATA

• Strategy shift: the move from IP licensing toward AI training data is recent, and the market for provenance products is still unproven.
• Rebrand confusion: older token pages, wallets and contracts may still use the Story or IP name, so confirm migration details with the official site.
• Token volatility: the token has seen very large price declines from earlier highs, and sharp moves in both directions are normal.
• Adoption dependency: demand for DATA depends on AI labs and data contributors actually using the network.
• Unlock and distribution schedules can add supply to the market, so review the official tokenomics documents.
