What is Open Campus (EDU)?
Open Campus is a community-led DAO building an on-chain education network. Its core contributors include Animoca Brands, TinyTap, NewCampus, RiseIn and HackQuest. The EDU token is the project's governance and utility asset. EDU first went to the public through a Binance Launchpad sale in April 2023, where 50 million tokens, or 5% of the total supply, were allocated.
The DAO model means holders and contributors decide how grants, content review standards and the roadmap evolve, rather than a single company. EDU Chain went live on mainnet on 17 January 2025, so its track record is short. Anyone using the token should check which network their EDU sits on, because the same ticker is held on several chains with different contract addresses.
What EDU is used for
In January 2025 Open Campus launched EDU Chain, a Layer 3 network built on Arbitrum Orbit and aimed at consumer education apps and on-chain education finance. EDU has these roles:
- Native gas token for transactions on EDU Chain.
- Governance: holders vote on grants, content standards and the roadmap.
- Rewards: users earn Yuzu points by using mainnet apps and can redeem them for EDU emissions, with up to 150 million EDU reserved for mainnet rewards.
EDU supply and token design
EDU has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. The ecosystem fund is the largest allocation at 25%, followed by advisors at 15.5% and the strategic sale at 13%. No tokens can be issued beyond the cap, and part of the supply unlocks over time. EDU exists on BNB Chain, Ethereum and Arbitrum One as well as on EDU Chain. Contract addresses differ between networks, so verify the one you use. The Ethereum and Arbitrum contract is 0xf8173a39c56a554837c4c7f104153a005d284d11, and the BNB Chain contract is 0xbdeae1ca48894a1759a8374d63925f21f2ee2639.
