Crypto gas tracker

What it costs to make a transaction right now on 9 networks, in gas and in US dollars.

Sending ETH on Ethereum costs about $0.0024 at 0.0498 gwei. The cheapest network for sending a token is OP Mainnet, at < $0.0001.

Ethereum-style networks: gas price is the next block's base fee plus the median tip paid in the last 20 blocks (10th percentile for Low, 90th for Fast). Base and OP Mainnet costs include the Ethereum data fee. Bitcoin uses mempool.space estimates for a 141 vB payment. Solana shows the 5,000-lamport base fee plus recent priority fees.

How to pay less in fees

  • Use a Layer 2 when you can. Many exchanges now let you withdraw directly to Base, Arbitrum or Optimism, where a transfer usually costs well under a cent.
  • Pick your moment. Ethereum fees are often lowest on weekends and late at night in US time zones. If your transaction isn't urgent, choose the Low setting and let it wait a few blocks.
  • Don't overpay for speed. On Bitcoin, the gap between "next block" and "within an hour" can be large when the mempool is busy, and the cheaper option is fine for most payments.
  • Bundle actions. Every approval and swap is a separate transaction. Moving funds once in a larger amount costs less than many small transfers.

Fees are only one part of the cost of a trade. See what exchanges charge on top in our guide to maker, taker and spread fees, check a wallet's balances with the wallet explorer, or compare stablecoins with the stablecoin peg monitor.

Frequently asked questions

What is a gas fee?

A gas fee is what you pay a blockchain network to process your transaction. On Ethereum and similar networks, every action uses a number of "gas units" (a simple ETH transfer uses 21,000) and you pay a price per unit, quoted in gwei. Your total fee is gas units multiplied by the gas price.

What is gwei?

Gwei is a small unit of ETH: 1 gwei is 0.000000001 ETH. Gas prices are quoted in gwei because they would be awkward to write in ETH. Polygon, BNB Chain and Avalanche use the same unit for their own coins.

Why do gas fees change so often?

Each block has limited space. When many people want to transact at once, for example during a market crash or a popular token launch, the base fee rises automatically and users add bigger tips to be included first. When demand falls, fees drop back down within minutes.

Why are Layer 2 fees so much cheaper?

Layer 2 networks such as Base, Arbitrum and Optimism process transactions off the Ethereum main chain and post them back in compressed batches. Thousands of users share the cost of each batch, so a transfer often costs a fraction of a cent while still being secured by Ethereum.

How is the Bitcoin fee calculated?

Bitcoin fees depend on the size of your transaction in virtual bytes (vB), not on the amount you send. We estimate a typical SegWit payment with one input and two outputs, about 141 vB. Wallets that combine many small coins (inputs) create larger transactions and pay more.

How accurate are these estimates?

Gas prices come straight from each network's latest blocks and refresh every 30 seconds. Dollar costs use typical gas amounts: 21,000 for a coin transfer, about 65,000 for a token transfer and about 180,000 for a DEX swap. Complex swaps and NFT mints can use more, so treat the figures as a guide and check your wallet's estimate before you confirm.
