How this score is calculated

A weighted average of five signals computed from the market data on this page. Each signal is scored from 0 to 100:

  • Liquidity (25%): 24-hour trading volume divided by market cap.
  • Market depth (25%): market cap, on a logarithmic scale from $10 million to $1 trillion.
  • Supply (15%): circulating supply divided by max supply, or by total supply when there is no cap. More supply already in circulation scores higher.
  • Distance from peak (15%): the current price compared with the all-time high.
  • Stability (20%): the largest recent price swing among the 1-hour move (×3), the 24-hour move and the 7-day move (÷2.6).

Bands: 75 and above strong, 55–74 fair, 35–54 weak, below 35 fragile.

Limits: the score describes current market structure only. It is not a price forecast, an audit or investment advice, and it does not consider the team, code or token unlocks. A missing input counts as a neutral 50.

About Legacy Frax Dollar

What is Legacy Frax Dollar (FRAX)?

Legacy Frax Dollar is the original FRAX stablecoin, a fractional-algorithmic dollar stablecoin created by the Frax Finance protocol, whose founder is Sam Kazemian. Frax and its stablecoin system date from 2019. In 2025 the community passed the Frax North Star proposal, FIP-428. Under it the original stablecoin was renamed Legacy Frax Dollar, the governance token FXS was renamed FRAX, and veFXS became veFRAX. This is the stablecoin page, so it should not be mixed up with the newer FRAX token.

How Legacy Frax Dollar works

The original design combined partial collateral with algorithmic stabilization to hold a US dollar peg. Frax's newer focus is frxUSD, a separate token that the proposal says is backed by directly held, non-rehypothecated Treasury bills, along with related short-term cash-like assets. Legacy Frax Dollar is now classified as a legacy product, kept for continuity and backward compatibility, and it continues to be minted and redeemed in the same way as the original FRAX. It uses a DeFi-native model driven by algorithmic market operations, and does not have the fiat-redeemable structure of frxUSD.

  • Trading and liquidity on decentralized exchanges.
  • Use as a dollar-pegged asset in lending and other DeFi protocols.

FRAX supply and token design

Legacy Frax Dollar has no fixed cap. The supply changes as it is minted and redeemed, rather than following a schedule. Live circulating supply is shown in the market data on this page. The Ethereum contract is 0x853d955aCEf822Db058eb8505911ED77F175b99e. This matters because the FRAX ticker now also names the renamed governance token, and the stablecoin exists on multiple networks. Check the contract and the network before sending funds.

Official information is on frax.finance.

What to check before using Legacy Frax Dollar

  • Ticker confusion. FRAX can refer to the legacy stablecoin or to the renamed governance token, which trades at a very different value. Verify which asset a listing refers to.
  • Legacy status. Frax's development effort has shifted to frxUSD, so the legacy token may receive less attention and liquidity.
  • Depeg risk. A partly algorithmic design depends on market operations and confidence to hold its peg.
  • Backing disclosure. Check what Frax's current documentation says about the collateral behind the legacy token before relying on it.
  • Bridged versions. Several networks carry separate contracts for this token, and bridge failures can affect them.

Legacy Frax Dollar market analysis

With a market capitalisation of $217.00 million, Legacy Frax Dollar (FRAX) is classed as a small-cap asset and ranks #167 of 1,341 cryptocurrencies with a reported market cap on CryptoWave, larger than about 87.5% of them. It accounts for roughly under 0.01% of the combined tracked market value. Small-cap assets can move quickly on news or exchange listings, and liquidity can thin out fast in sell-offs.

Over the last 24 hours roughly $161.1 thousand of FRAX changed hands, equal to 0.07% of its market cap, which puts its trading volume ahead of about 29.9% of tracked assets. Trading activity is very low relative to market cap, which usually points to poor liquidity. Its turnover ratio is higher than that of about 8% of tracked assets.

Price action: FRAX moved −0.14% in 24 hours and −0.15% over 7 days. It outperformed Bitcoin by 2.04 percentage points over 24 hours and by 3.71 points over 7 days. Against the median tracked coin (ahead by 2.10 points on the day and ahead by 6.06 points on the week), it has been a relative strength in recent sessions.

To overtake Backpack (BP) just above it, Legacy Frax Dollar would need to grow its market cap by about 1.4%; it is 1.1% larger than Beam (BEAM) just below. Its market cap is 0.01% of Bitcoin's.
