What is Spark (SPK)?
SPK is the governance and staking token of Spark, a DeFi protocol that is part of the Sky ecosystem (the protocol behind the USDS and DAI stablecoins). Spark borrows stablecoin liquidity from Sky and deploys it across DeFi lending, savings and approved real-world and institutional markets. The SPK token reached the market in June 2025 after an airdrop to early Spark users.
What SPK is used for
SPK gives holders a voice in Spark's direction and a way to take part in its incentive programs:
- Governance: holders use SPK for signaling and sentiment votes on Snapshot.
- Staking: staked SPK earns Spark Points, and Symbiotic also awards points to SPK stakers. The docs say staked SPK may later help secure Spark products and services.
- Farming: users can earn SPK by depositing USDS into the SPK Farm.
Spark's products include SparkLend, a money market that offers stablecoin credit against digital assets, and the Spark Liquidity Layer, which provides direct liquidity into DeFi markets.
SPK supply and token design
A total of 10 billion SPK was minted at genesis. The allocation is 65% for Sky farming, 23% for the ecosystem and 12% for the team.
- Sky farming (6.5 billion): distributed to USDS depositors over ten years. Annual emissions step down from 1.625 billion in years one and two to about 203 million in years seven to ten.
- Ecosystem (2.3 billion): 17% of total supply was available at launch, with the remaining 6% unlocking one year later.
- Team (1.2 billion): a 12-month cliff on 25%, then three years of vesting for the rest.
The docs state that Sky can mint additional SPK only in extreme circumstances. Live circulating supply is shown in the market data on this page. The Ethereum contract is 0xc20059e0317DE91738d13af027DfC4a50781b066, and Spark warns of fake tokens and claim sites. SPK can be bridged between Ethereum and BNB Chain with Stargate.

- SPK is a governance token with limited direct rights, and the Snapshot votes described in the docs are for signaling.
- Scheduled farming emissions, team vesting and treasury unlocks add to supply over time and can weigh on price.
- Spark depends on Sky for stablecoin liquidity, so risks to USDS, DAI or Sky governance affect the protocol.
- Lending and real-world asset allocations carry smart contract, oracle and counterparty risk.
- The airdrop claim period has ended, so any site offering SPK claims is not legitimate.
