What is Pudgy Penguins (PENGU)?
PENGU is the token of the Pudgy Penguins brand, which began as an NFT collection and grew into a consumer brand with toys, games and digital collectibles. The project is run by Igloo, with Luca Netz as CEO. PENGU launched on Solana on 17 December 2024, with a plan to bring it to Ethereum and the Abstract chain later. It is now also deployed on several other networks.
What PENGU is used for
PENGU acts as the community token of the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem. It is used as a tradable asset and a way to reward and include community members, starting with the airdrop to NFT holders and other communities. It does not give legal rights in Igloo, and it is not a stake in the company. Many holders treat it as a meme-style token with brand backing from an established NFT project.
PENGU supply and token design
The total supply at creation was 88,888,888,888 PENGU, which is also the maximum. Live circulating supply is shown in the market data on this page. The announced allocation was:
- 25.9% to the Pudgy Penguins community, through an airdrop claim.
- 24.12% to other communities and new "Huddle" members.
- 17.8% to current and future team members, with a one-year cliff and three-year vesting.
- 11.48% retained by the company on the same vesting terms.
Claims for the airdrop stayed open for 88 days. Tokens that were not claimed in that period were burned, which reduced the supply. Because of this, the circulating and total figures on this page are lower than the original 88.9 billion figure.
