What is Aster (ASTER)?
Aster is a decentralized exchange focused on perpetual futures. It was formed from the combination of Astherus and APX Finance, and its token, ASTER, launched on 17 September 2025. ASTER is a BNB Chain token and the central token of the Aster ecosystem. APX token holders could convert to ASTER at a 1:1 ratio through a migration.
What ASTER is used for
ASTER is tied to the exchange's incentive and governance design:
- Staking, where holders lock ASTER to earn rewards.
- Rewards for trading and loyalty, which rise with lock duration and activity.
- Buybacks funded by platform fees, which take tokens off the open market.
The exchange lets users trade perpetual contracts on-chain from their own wallets, without handing custody to a centralized platform.
ASTER supply and token design
Maximum supply is 8 billion ASTER. The published allocation gives 53.5 percent to airdrops and community rewards, 30 percent to ecosystem needs, 7 percent to a foundation treasury that stays locked until used through governance-approved mechanisms, and 5 percent to the team. At the token generation event, 704 million tokens (8.8 percent) were distributed in the airdrop, and the rest of the airdrop supply was scheduled to unlock gradually over 80 months.
In March 2026 Aster changed its emission model. Ecosystem tokens are now released only as staking rewards, at a rate of 450,000 ASTER per weekly epoch, which the project says cuts new monthly supply by about 97 percent compared with the earlier linear unlock. Aster offers perpetual contracts, which are futures with no expiry date that track an asset price through a funding mechanism. A decentralized exchange keeps trading logic on-chain and lets users trade from their own wallets. Aster is built around BNB Chain, where the ASTER token contract lives, and its category tags also place it in the wider decentralized finance and exchange-token groups. The project publishes API documentation for traders and developers who want to connect to the exchange programmatically.
